Congratulations to UC-bound students! While you’re preparing for graduation, there are a few things you need to do to complete your requirements for admission to the University of California. Submit the following:
1. Final high school transcript indicating your graduation date and final grades for 12th grade by July 1, 2022 (electronically, not emailed).
* If your transcript will not be available by July1, email AskUC@ucop.edu and your college with high school name, CEEB code, and date transcript will be available.
2. Transcripts from all college coursework taken during high school. (electronically, not emailed).
3. AP/IB/A-level exam scores by July 15, 2022
4. Full or partial UC IGETC certification by July 15, 2022
5. Analytical Writing Placement Exam and Entry Level Writing Requirement
* Check with your individual campus to see what specific guidelines for meeting the Entry Level Writing Requirement.
* UCD, UCI, UCM, UCSB, UCSC does not require the AWPE
* UCB,UCLA, UCR, and UCSD can take the AWPE to satisfy the Entry Level
Writing Requirement. Check with the individual campus for further information.

UCs will start notifying freshman applicants of admissions decisions in the next few weeks, and transfer applicants by end of April. Normally, April is the month to visit college campuses to make final decisions colleges, but the UCs will not have on-campus Admit Days this year. Instead, they’ll all have virtual activities and seminars that include financial aid/scholarships, choosing majors, housing, support services, and student organizations.
Here are the dates for each UC campus:
UC Berkeley: April 3, Cal Week: April 24 —30
UC Davis: March 30 — April 3
UC Irvine: March 26 — April 17
UCLA: April 5 —16
UC Merced: March 9 — April 24
UC Riverside: April 5 — 7
UC San Diego: April 10, with other events continuing throughout April
UC Santa Barbara: March 22 — 25 and April 26 — 30
UC Santa Cruz: March 20 — April 10
To accept to one UC, pay your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) and pay the $250 deposit by May 1st. The SIR is nonrefundable and non-transferable, but the payment does go towards your first enrollment term tuition.
Students will need to satisfy the Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) by taking the Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE) on Saturday, May 22nd or by satisfying the requirement with qualifying SAT, ACT, AP or IB scores or receiving a C or higher in a college English composition course. Check with your college before signing up for the AWPE because UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Santa Cruz are not requiring the AWPE but have other rules.
If you’re going to be a freshman at one of the University of California campuses this fall, you may need to take their Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE). Normally, it’s given at one of the 10 campuses but this year – Surprise! Surprise! – it’s going to be given online. The AWPE is scheduled for Saturday, June 20th. You only need to take this exam if you haven’t satisfied their Entry-Level Writing Requirement.
If you have satisfied any ONE of these requirements, you do NOT have to take the AWPE:
- 30 or better on the ACT, English Language Arts; or
- 680 or better on the SAT, Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing section; or
- 3 or above on either Advanced Placement Examination in English; or
- 5 or above on an International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher Level English A: Literature exam; or
- 6 or above on an IB Standard Level English A: Literature exam; or
- 5 or above on an IB Higher Level English A: Language and Literature exam; or
- 6 or above on an IB Standard Level English A: Language and Literature exam; or
- Successfully completed a UC-transferrable English Composition course offered by a college or university (not high school).
You should have received an email from your UC Registrar about the exam requirements and test date. If you didn’t, call the registrar to get more information.
