Our Commitment to Education
Mission Statement & Vision
By working one-on-one with their advisors and teachers, students integrate their rigorous academics with their passionate motivation for extracurricular projects. These highly motivated students in turn serve as role models to other Merit students as well as their peers. By encouraging students to do personal projects, every Merit student builds self-esteem, exhibits strong leadership skills, and sets out to promote change to improve quality of life around the globe. Students ultimately become responsible leaders among their peers, within their families, and in their communities. Meritworld educates students (preschool to 12th grade) so they can excel in college and make a positive impact on society.
We employ rigorous standards to fully prepare students to be successful at even the most selective universities. Our dedicated teachers, who are experts in their fields, offer exciting lectures and individualized support. Students not only take a full load of accelerated classes, but they also get experience with life outside the classroom—holding internships, working on special projects, and performing community service. As students approach college, they receive guidance with the admissions process. Although the workload might seem heavy for some students, we offer the support they need to get it done.
Education in the US
Across the nation, public and private schools alike are plagued with the same problems. They lack an overall vision that would otherwise lend continuity from class to class. Teachers are burned out, and large class sizes destroy the chance for each and every student to receive detailed and individualized guidance. Students are pushed through, regardless of whether they’re prepared for the next level. These under-prepared students force classrooms to become remedial, making all students suffer. And every time budgets are cut, the problems worsen.
With such a weak foundation, students lack the skills to move on and are unlikely to succeed unless they get outside tutoring. Sometimes it seems remarkable that any students are prepared for the next step by the time they get their diploma!
At Merit Academy, we don’t have these problems. Why? Because there is one student per class. Teachers teach directly to that one student, so there’s no way to slip through the cracks. The classes move at a level appropriate for each student, so you won’t have to wonder whether your child is participating in class discussions or whether the teacher is engaging your child. Merit leads them through the process of how to explore careers through starting businesses, working in professional internships, and promoting individual projects.
Merit's teachers and director keep close tabs on each student’s progress. Teachers report directly to Merit’s director about each student’s work. The director meets with each student once per week to ensure that the student is making good progress, enjoying their classes, and using their time wisely. If a student looks like they might fall behind, they are able to receive extra tutoring. No one gets lost in the shuffle at Merit.
