Time Management
With Merit's time management program students learn how to block off time for homework, sports, friends and family.
Many educators overlook one of the most important contributors to academic success—time management, which is the skill of planning your schedule and budgeting your time for maximum effectiveness. Many students fail not because they are stupid, but because they were busy and didn’t dedicate enough time to studying.
At Merit, time management is one of the first issues we address. Once students learn to manage their time, not only does it reduce stress but it also leads to a big improvement in students’ schoolwork. Even the most disorganized students can gain control of their lives, meeting deadlines and reducing chaos both in and out of school.
We can work with each student to show them how to manage their time effectively. Students first have a meeting with the director where they look at their current schedule and learn how to better manage their time. By using the Merit Academic Planner to enter in due dates, test dates, and appointments, the students can set their personal schedules by blocking off time needed to complete homework and projects, so they still have time to have fun with their friends. The students learn how to organize their days and weeks so they can make the best use of their time, allowing them to succeed in school.
Merit College Advisors are available to work with students in two capacities. On-Site Sessions are available to students in Santa Cruz, Cupertino, or Palo Alto.
